Christmas in Mt. Pleasant
Open Article
Close Article
The Mt. Pleasant Christmas parade is one of the highlights of the holiday season.
2011 marks the second year that our lodge has particpated with a float in the parade.
This year we were honored to have Mrs. Clause ride our float along with several wide-eyed children.

We also had some of worker elves walking along side, handing candy to the spectators.
What makes this parade so fun is that it is a night-time parade, so the floats are decorated with lights.
The Mt. Pleasant Elks Lodge is happy to be a part of this event and plans to every year.

Even though Mt Pleasant Lodge #2867 is a new lodge, we have a very active Veterans Committee.
Our Veterans Committee makes visits to a local VA Nursing Home twice a month. They have provided and installed bird baths and feeders so our veterans can enjoy watching the birds.
They are also very active with the veterans committee from the Charleston Lodge #242, coordinating visits and assisting in fundraisers.
Keep up the great work!

SC Elks Winter Convention

On January 27-28, the SC Elks held the Winter Convention in Myrtle Beach. It was a wonderful event, full of information, fun and fellowship.
Mt. Pleasant had a good showing with 14 or more in attendance. We had the opportunity to meet many new friends.
Pictured above is our Exalted Ruler, Michael Fenwrick with the Grand Exalted Ruler, Michael F. Smith.
The Mt. Pleasant and Summerville lodges joined forces to help the Charleston lodge with their hospitality room, which was by far the biggest one at the convention,
complete with food, bar and DJ.

Most of us did also take the time to visit all the other hospitality rooms.
It was a great time to learn more about Elkdom and to meet some great people.

Applebee's Flapjack Fundraiser

On Saturday morning, December 11th, the Mt. Pleasant Elks hosted a Flapjack Fundraiser at the Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill in Mt. Pleasant.
The fundraiser ran from 8am to 10am.

During the two hours, we had quite a few guests come and enjoy a delicious hot flapjack breakfast.
This was our fist fundraiser of this type and although the turnout was not what we had hoped for, we definitely plan to do this again – bigger and better next time.
Special thanks to the management and staff of Applebee's for helping us with this fundraiser.

Applebee’s provided the cooks while lodge members prepared the plates and drinks and waited on customers.
The children had a great time as well meeting Elkee.

On September 26, the Mt. Pleasant Elks Lodge was officially inducted and our charter members and officers were installed. Officers pictured above.
The ceremonies were held at the Charleston Elks Lodge # 242.
Special thanks to the Charleston Lodge for their help and support in getting our lodge started.
None of this would have been possible if not for the tireless support and guidance of Skip McDole, SC New Lodge Development.
Skip and his wife Carolyn drove two hours to almost every meeting, twice a month for over a year.
Thanks for the encouragement and helping us to keep the fire alive so that we would see this special day.
We had over 70 charter members installed on the 26th and had a second installation on October 12th.
Thank you to all the SC Lodges for the gifts and support we have received.
It is very true, Elks Care, Elks Share.
